At NWU Enterprises (NWUE), our Business Development Managers (BDMs) excel at identifying external customer segments and crafting tailored proposals alongside our talented researchers and consultants. They form dedicated project teams, manage budgets, and ensure our proposals are competitive and compelling. The BDMs actively promote NWUE’s services, seek out bulk sales opportunities, and provide essential support for projects initiated by our partners. They take pride in ensuring that contracts and project terms are sound, addressing any resource gaps that arise, and ultimately working to “close the sale” with signed agreements. It’s a collaborative effort that showcases our commitment to delivering value to our customers.
Each project is led by a dedicated Project Manager, who typically oversees a portfolio of projects to ensure timely delivery and adherence to budget. They allocate resources effectively and are supported by Coordinators handling essential administrative tasks, including project accounting and procurement. A crucial part of their role is assisting Business Development Managers in building skilled project teams by recruiting consultants and research assistants and ensuring seamless payroll and services. We understand that each project requires the right level of management capacity, whether involving researchers or utilizing external contractors, to ensure every project has the support it needs to succeed.
We offer a comprehensive suite of commercial services that support business management through effective governance and leadership. Our focus is on growing commercial activities, whether in an agency or principal mode. Typically, these activities are managed as ring-fenced business units within the Platform, and when appropriate, they can be spun out into standalone companies.

To address this, every project team must be resourced in a way that allows researchers to focus solely on high-value activities, with project budgets designed to mitigate any disruption to their academic responsibilities, such as funding temporary replacement lecturers. Consequently, it’s essential for us to efficiently engage employees or contractors to join project teams for the duration of each project.

At NWUE, we've already established project auditability by designing our Project Management and Project Accounting workflows to meet rigorous audit standards. Our online system includes clear audit trail requirements that are effectively managed by our Project Coordinators, ensuring transparency and accountability in every project.
We serve as the holding company for all the University’s commercial enterprises, managing this portfolio with a focus on achieving commercial success and generating dividend flow. We will close dormant or unviable companies while ensuring that viable ones are governed by active, competent boards. The Board of the Company will oversee all shareholder decisions, ensuring effective management and strategic direction.
